November 25th – International Buy Nothing Day

20111124-201613.jpg

International buy nothing day has only just been brought to my attention!

Apparently it is the 20th anniversary of this amazing concept that empowers people to make a statement by simply doing nothing, more importantly, spending nothing.
I am not going to write any points of view here, I just simply want to point people in the direction of something that they may find interesting.

You’ve been sleeping on the streets for two months pleading peacefully for a new spirit in economics. And just as your camps are raided, your eyes pepper sprayed and your head’s knocked in, another group of people are preparing to camp-out. Only these people aren’t here to support occupy Wall Street, they’re here to secure their spot in line for a Black Friday bargain at Super Target and Macy’s.

Go check out the adbusters website for a very interesting read. Lots of things you can do to “#occupyxmas” too.

  1. I wrote a blog post, http://www.haltonrecycles.ca, about BND here in Halton Region (Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton & Oakville). We’ve also been tweeting about the day as well. It has been interesting reading various people’s tweets about the day, there’s been a lot of discussion about the potential impact, or value of this sort of action (or lack thereof).

Our Waste Management Services team is going to comment on our BND experience on Monday. I am not a huge consumer, but I have definitely faced a few challenges today without buying anything (I almost bought the anti-virus update for my computer this morning…it just so happened I decided to wait…BND didn’t even register!)

ps: I am really enjoying your Blog and like to take a bit of time out of my day to read your new entries.

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time out to write a moment here on my pages, it really makes a difference and confirms the reasons I am doing this. A worldwide coming together for action is certainly taking place, keep on track and it will all become reality. Thanks again for your support, I will be keeping up on your writings too. Thank you.

Have your say
