Levellers and the Exxon Valdez

This song from my teens, randomly came into my head by the levellers – on closer inspection I saw the following Lyrics:

“Your Walkman generation
In search of sweet sedation
While forests choke under a ‘lever sky
And the Exxon birds will never fly”

These lyrics refer to the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill – Quite appropriate as we fight the Enbridge Pipeline in Canada.

The Canadian Trans-Pacific Free Trade Heist

I moved from the UK to Canada in 2008 because it was a beautiful country with amazing vistas and to support it’s peoples love of the great outdoors.  As time progresses and the more I read and understand about the Harper government, the more I begin to see corruption and a seedy underbelly to this country.  Greed, money and a political interest in the ‘value’ of nature, is turning my love of Canada against Canadian leaders.
Are you Canadian, do you love this country, do you love your leaders, what makes you proud to be Canadian these days?!

The free trade agreement is all about exploiting Canada’s natural resources & agricultural commodities and importing products produced in jurisdictions that have much lower wages in many cases.  After WWII, the Canadian manufacturing sector made up 29% of our economy, but now it only makes up 13% (a 55% decline).  This trend will only continue to get worse based on the decisions the Harper government is making.  Our government should be supporting and promoting local businesses rather than outsourcing local economic potential.  In addition, now that the 2012 Omnibus budget has been passed, environmental assessment on natural resource projects have suffered a serious blow.  Projects will be fast tracked.   The goal of the Harper government is to exploit Canada’s resources as quickly as possible in an effort to sell the raw material to developing nations so that we can purchase the finished products using bank credit.  You can easily see where this is going.

Psychological Warfare

This video is North Korean Propaganda, that actually seems to really hit some valid points! It truly makes you see how the Western cultures of consumerism have been used to exploit and enslave entire populations. I laughed out loud when it shows you the reactions of people “rejoicing” because they just won “consumer goods” or bought a phone!

A worthy watch, there are more parts to come, I suggest you subscribe to the YouTube channel to see what follows.

Are we ALL victims of psychological warfare, by our own leaders. I certainly think so. Even more so with recent actions by the Harper government in Canada. They are losing grip on society as methods are being uncovered and they are finding it ever harder to conceal their draconian, underhand procedures to dumb down the population. It’s time to stand up and ask questions that matter.  It’s time for the people to pave the way, not for the seedy, greedy “elite” to destroy this planet for their own gain. Get involved in the dialogue, do something to make yourself heard and make a difference in the direction of Humanity. If you are not here to contribute, then what are you here for?

I would love to hear your views below in the comments section – thanks for contributing!

Enbridge and Cancer!

Only minutes after writing a letter to highlight my disgust at upcoming pipeline plans of Enbridge, I receive a request for money from a friend who is taking part in the ‘Enbridge ride to conquer Cancer’.
Now the request in itself is fine and I am all for helping people raise money for a worthy cause. My problem however is how can Enbridge sponsor such an event. I am hoping it backfires on them. Most people may not even know who Enbridge are, but now they see it in the title of the ride to conquer cancer, it may spark some questions. Such as, hmmmm, isn’t most cancer caused through some form of production that Enbridge is involved in? Well maybe not so directly, but come on people this is going too far now. An oil company sponsoring a cure for cancer! Well I guess they should cough up some money for the issues they’ve put on the table.
Let’s see this for what it is and make sure we don’t fall for there cries of support. ‘ahh good old Enbridge, they do care!’ NO! We’ll know they care when they stop selling the planet.

You can see my letter below and you can write your own here.

Also, an article about this in the Georgia straight.

It is time for humanity to truly be born. As the human race evolves, we need to evolve in the right direction and to not be so set in our ways as the most wasteful Animal on the planet. We owe it to all other creatures and ourselves. We need to live resourcefully and in harmony with our surroundings and to give back to the planet as we take. Like a tree takes from the ground, it also returns nutrients as the leaves fall. Let’s change the direction of this planet and feed it well, so it can feed us. We all want to live a life that is rich, but rich in happiness does not involve wealth. Stop the greed and stop selling the planet!

Sincerely…….

Obama gets it right

Some amazing news today, Obama has made two key decisions related to things I feel very strongly about.

He has decided not to back the SOPA Bill – Read Forbes

The Obama administration have also explained that they will not be going forward with the controversial plan with the XL Pipeline. This has upset the oil greedy Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper and the biased Natural Resource Minister Joe Oliver. It is such a breath of fresh air to hear this kind of news from the Obama administration. I just hope we can encourage President Harper to develop some deep morals and change his myopic view of selling Oil to Asia. – Read the Huffington Post article.

Time for Canada’s Natural Resources Minister to Resign!

I was first made aware of Joe Oliver’s ridiculous comments thanks to the Dogwood Initiative. I include below a small section of the letter:

Unfortunately, there are environmental and other radical groups that would seek to block this opportunity to diversify our trade. Their goal is to stop any major project no matter what the cost to Canadian families in lost jobs and economic growth. No forestry. No mining. No oil. No gas. No more hydro-electric dams.

These groups threaten to hijack our regulatory system to achieve their radical ideological agenda. They seek to exploit any loophole they can find, stacking public hearings with bodies to ensure that delays kill good projects. They use funding from foreign special interest groups to undermine Canada’s national economic interest. They attract jet-setting celebrities with some of the largest personal carbon footprints in the world to lecture Canadians not to develop our natural resources

You can see the full letter from the Natural Resources Minister on the Financial Post

I feel that Joe Oliver should maintain a balanced view and should be open to all avenues and be available to listen to all people. It appears however, that he has already made his mind up on what should be done. His role is surely to remain impartial and to be there for the people, this letter has confirmed that he is not fit for his job and should resign from the position. Maybe he should go and work for the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) they agree with his letter, obviously!! See what they have to say!

I have come across a couple of great letters back to Joe Oliver and I invite you to read them.

Canada Fails Humanity but Serves Corporate Consumer Greed

The people of Canada are an extremely environmentally conscious group of people and here, more than anywhere, I have witnessed the rise of great people doing great things to promote environmental awareness. The country has an amazingly diverse and beautiful landscape which lends itself perfectly to a great deal of outdoor pursuits. For this reason the people that live here understand the importance of looking after the environment and have such a deep appreciation for it. It is because of this that I am completely shocked at the recent decision by Peter Kent, someone who for some unjust reason, has earned the position of Environment Minister!! You have to be kidding. An Environment Minister that pulls out of the Kyoto Treaty??!

Despite Canada’s love of the environment, there is a dark side to it, Oil & Wood export. These items seem to contribute a huge amount to the economy and the Governments’ need for greed is holding it back in regards to progress in relation to all things green.

If Canada just said, “no, we will not export Oil”, then maybe some scientist group would have to come up with alternative ways to create energy. In fact I am pretty sure people already have. I feel that there is too much greed and too much money to be made from Oil and the current system, that the large corporations that control the industry are lobbying the governments so hard that they have been bought over.
If Stephen Harper & Peter Kent were true Canadians, I feel they would honor the land and it’s native people, take pride in the beauty that the country has to offer and not bow down to the American demands and pressure.
Just because our government doesn’t care doesn’t mean we shouldn’t. We need to do everything within our power to focus on a new way forward.
